3-Legged Stool
One day course
This is a one day workshop course making 3-legged stool from hardwood, some elements of which have been preformed. You will spend the day (10am to 4.30pm) making the stool, using materials and hand tools provided, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The completed stools will be yours to take home at the end of the day. This course is suitable for all abilities of woodworker, but a ‘can do’ attitude is desirable. Tea and coffee will be available, but students are asked to bring their own lunch. Every Friday.

Introduction to Joinery 1
One day course
This is a one day workshop course to learn and practice the construction of joints used in joinery and furniture making. The course is an introduction to ‘measuring, marking and cutting’ and will involve making basic joints including half-laps and mortice and tenons to produce a rudimentry picture frame without glue or metal fastenings. This course is suitable for complete beginners and also for those wishing to brush up their existing skills. It will form the basis for future more complex joinery courses. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch.

Introduction to Joinery 2
One day course
This is one day workshop course, which follows on from Introduction to Joinery 1. The course will cover more complex joinery skills including bridle joints and mitres using hand tools which will be provided. This course is suitable for those who have completed Introduction to Joinery 1 or those who are more confident in their skills. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch.

Introduction to Wood Turning
One day course
This one day workshop course is an introduction to using a wood lathe effectively and safely. The course covers familiarisation of the lathe features and tools and then practising spindle turning between centres utilising a roughing gouge, spindle gouge, skew and scraper chisels, methods of tool sharpening will also be covered. This course is aimed at absolute beginners who are looking to start wood turning and/or those who have purchased a lathe but not got round to using it!. This course is restricted to a maximum of 2 students. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch.

Introduction to the Router
A day course exploring using a router. Students will familiarise themselves with a hand held trimmer router, a 1/2” plunge router and a variety of cutters, using them to create mouldings, straight and curved rebates and dados. By the end of the session the student should have enough knowledge to be able to use either safely and with confidence.

Sharpening Event
One Day
Bring in your blunt chisels and plane irons for a coaching session on getting them sharpened. After a practical demonstration using a variety of sharpening methods -including regrinding using a Tormek, a conventional bench grinder and finishing using oil, diamond and water stones as well as ‘scary sharpening’, you will sharpen your own tools using your preferred method. Please bring in three or more items to sharpen. 10am to 4pm

Paddle/Oar Making
Three day course
This is a three day workshop course to create a paddle or a simple oar primarily using hand tools. The project will start from rough sawn timber and will involve machining, template making, gluing, hand shaping and finishing, the paddle or oar can then be taken home. This course is suitable for beginners but some woodworking experience would be desirable. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch. Tuesday to Wednesday.

4-Legged Bar Stool
Three day course
This is a relatively challenging task and would suit a more experienced woodworker who has a good understanding of making mortice and tenons, those who have completed the one day Basic Joinery Course will have sufficient skills to partake. The stool is made from hardwood (ash oak or tulipwood) and the student will work from a joiner’s rod which they will have drawn themselves and is then used to shape the legs and stretchers. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch

Half Model
Two day course
This is a two day workshop course to create a 300mm half model of a yacht of your choice (dependent on availability of suitable line drawings). The course will include a basic tutorial on lofting to provide a background understanding of the methods used. The ‘bare’ model will be mounted on a hardwood board and painting/finishing can be completed in the students own time. Tea and coffee will be provided, but students are asked to bring their own lunch.
